Frequently Asked Questions
What models of iPad do you support?
Images works on all current Apple iPads. We need at least a A12 Bionic with Neural Engine. This was introduced in the 3rd generation iPad Pro, 8th generation iPad, 3rd generation iPad Air and 5th generation iPad mini.
Will you be doing an iPhone version?
Both the Viewer and Gallery benefit from a larger display. For now our focus is on developing the iPad app.
Are my photos and privacy safe?
Images does not actually have access to your Photo Library. Your photo library is shown using Apple’s “Private Access to Photos” system, and Images can only access the photos you select to share with it. You can optionally disable sharing your photo’s “Location” or “Captions” but Images does not access that data anyway. Images is not a photo editor, so it never writes to your photos and keeps them safe. Images does not store your photos and does not share them in any way. Images estimates your face’s position, orientation, distance and gaze direction but does not store or share the data. Face data is only used to compute a relationship to the scope icon’s position, it is then discarded.
Do I need to prepare my photos for use in Images?
Images will use the depth data that your iPhone or iPad recorded when the photo was taken. If this is not found it will use AI to infer the subjects of your photo and generate depth data for them. To maximise the effect of the Images Viewer it may be worth removing any blur in your “Portrait” photos using Apple’s Photo app, but that is a personal preference.
Should I always use “Automatic Head Stabilization”?
Start with this setting disabled until you are confident with the gaze tracking accuracy. Using this feature disables the Scope prompts to move your head to the position it was during training. Once you are happy with gaze tracking you can get additional help from this feature.
